The Vending Machine Wig

By Karen L. Bellin

I left my hair on a chair,
didn’t know it was there,
until I got quite far,
Bob driving the car.

Don’t panic, he said!
Put a hat on your head.
“But I can’t wear a hat.
It’ll fall off my head
when I lay back.
I’m going to the Dentist and
I can’t hide this hairdo.”

He went to work and I did too.
“What shall I do?
What shall I do?”
I knew right away
what I would do that day.
“I’ll go buy hair that’s always there
So fresh and clean
in the vending machine.
Yes, it’s like a new dress.
I’ll put it on and all will be well.”

But do tell,
this lady came up,
when the hair that was there
wouldn’t come out.
“Oh no,” she said with a shout!
“Don’t buy, too expensive.
You’ll dread what you’ve done,
And it won’t be fun.”
Another lady came up, swiped my card,
and the hair came down.
“Thanks, thank you,” I said.
“Now I can go downtown
and get my teeth cleaned.”
“What do you mean?”
She said.
But I didn’t have time.
So, I turned on a dime, but stopped to say,
“Goodbye ladies, have a nice day,
and thank you.”

But I got in my car,
and couldn’t find my glasses.
So out I jumped
with quite a thump.
But as I was going back in the place,
I felt my face.
“There they are.”
They were not far.
The glasses sat on my head.

I tell you no lie, this happened today
on my way to the Dentist.
I even told the hygienist, who liked my hair,
that I did not dread
buying the hair on my head
from a Vending Machine.
Oh, by the way,
I was late that day.

Make the World a Beautiful Place
By Karen L. Bellin

Make the world a beautiful place,
with your poise and grace,
navigating through space
between crowds, and
although they may be loud,
they will move aside on either
side of you to
let you pass through,
just because
You’re you.
Inspire them to go
through their suffering and pain
and not complain.
Go now, make the world a beautiful place
with your grace and poise.
Dance and drown out the noise that
disturbs your equilibrium by
making beautiful music amongst the
Cacophony!

Like Unto the Glory of God
By Karen L. Bellin

Ezekiel 1:27-28 Revelation 1:12-18 15:2,
John 20:24-29

Dear Jesus, let me see You now in all Your glory.
I want to see the brilliance that is like amber, like fire,
radiating from Your waist up and down,
and giving a brilliant light all around.
Let your encircling light radiate like a rainbow
through the clouds on a rainy day.
Let me see Your head and hair,
white like wool, like snow.
I want to see Your feet that trod
the roads of Galilee
now like burnished bronze
walking on
the sea of glass and fire.
I want to see Your hands I nailed
to a cross on Golgotha.
The right holding onto seven stars
and both bearing scars,
the wounds that set me free.
I want to see Your eyes
like a flame of fire
piercing through the darkness.
And hear your voice rushing down
like the sound of many waters.
Lord, I love You with all my heart and soul,
and all my might.
Now let me see the sight
that is like unto the
Glory of God.

My Prayer Request
By Karen L. Bellin

Oh Lord my God
I know you hear my plea.
With all my heart and soul
I ask of Thee
Strengthen what is mine to give
And let Thy light shine through.
Teaching me the way to live
And all that I should do.
Let me walk in a narrow path
Always led by you,
Knowing that my life shall last,
Believing what is true.

You Are Dawn
By Karen L. Bellin

You are Dawn.
You are the first
Appearance of daylight
In the morning.
You are Dawn.
You broke over the valley today,
Awakening us
To all that surrounds us.
You are Dawn.
You are the beginning of daylight
Set upon a hill
Where all can see you
Dispelling the darkness of Night.
You are Dawn,
Stretching your arms to
Embrace the world
As the Son rises.
This is who you are,
Dawn.

Her Eternal Rest
After reading my Sister-in-law’s
Tribute To My Mother
By Karen L. Bellin

I promised I wouldn’t cry today,
but try as I may, I cried.
I cried when I read your touching words.
I cried when I heard she died,
just a few days before I would knock at her door,
and say I love you once more.
I cried when I found the words to express my joy
that she was at peace, and forever released,
to the Jesus we know so well.
I could tell my grief was mingled with hope
of the bright mountain we find when we follow behind
those who have traveled the dark valley of death.
I know that she shall go to her Eternal rest,
from the Midnight of Desperation
to the Daybreak of Joy, to be forever blessed!
